Overview and programme

As organisations across the health and social care sector strive to tackle complex challenges, local leaders are working not only to ensure effective services, but are also seeking to redesign whole systems. These efforts, set against a backdrop of reduced resources and increased integration, require more than simply knowing what works.

Increasingly, evidence suggests that designing effective systems and services is contingent on factors such as culture and values. Whilst often talked about, these factors are subjective, intangible and difficult to define, measure or inspect. For leaders of complex systems, adopting a values-based approach can require a fundamental change in strategy, and can demand radically new thinking.

Leaders’ Forum 2017 will explore the role of values in leadership decision-making regarding service and system redesign. We will hear from colleagues working in areas where a shift to a value-based culture is underway, and will debate the evidence surrounding issues of values and culture in relation to continuous improvement and innovation.
