Local authorities have a range of statutory duties and delegated powers in relation to the wellbeing, and care and support, of adults. The importance of strategic managers, supervisors and the wider workforce being legally literate cannot be overstated. However, having a clear understanding of the duties and powers conferred by legalisation, and being able to apply them in practice, is not sufficient in isolation. Practitioners, and those supervising them, need ‘court craft’ - the right knowledge and skills to build their confidence in undertaking effective court work.
