Updated national framework for continuing healthcare and funded nursing care
The Department of Health and Social Care has updated the guidance of the national framework for NHS continuing healthcare and NHS-funded nursing care. The 2018 version of the national framework document and associated tools will take effect on 1 October 2018 and will supersede the 2012 version.
NHS continuing healthcare is an ongoing package of health and social care that is arranged and funded solely by the NHS where an individual is found to have a primary health need. Care is provided to an individual aged 18 or over to meet needs that have arisen as a result of disability, accident or illness.
The framework sets out the principles and processes for deciding eligibility. It includes a checklist, decision support tool and fast track pathway tool to help clinicians and practitioners with the decision-making process.
