Update on adult social care Green Paper

10 July 2018

Delay to Green PaperThe future position of and opportunity for adult social care has been the focus of a number of reports following the decision by the Government to delay the publication of the social care Green Paper.

The Local Government Association (LGA) and the National Audit Office (NAO) have both reiterated the importance of financial stability if we are to create an efficient and integrated system fit for the future. The NAO explore the financial barriers that prevent health and social care services from working together effectively and suggest that resources need to be better allocated to improve integration and technology.

In addition, the annual ADASS Budget Survey released in June highlighted the urgency in which a sustainable long-term funding plan for social care is needed in order to protect services.

In response to the delay, BASW and ADASS both released statements which emphasised their disappointment and stressed the need for the Green Paper to be delivered as soon as possible.
