Social Work England consultation on legislative framework

06 March 2018

The Children and Social Work Act 2017 provides a broad legal framework for the regulation of social work in England through the creation of a new regulatory body, Social Work England.

The Department for Education and the Department of Health and Social Care have jointly launched the consultation Social Work England: consultation on secondary legislative framework proposing arrangements for Social Work England’s operating framework. It is accompanied by draft illustrative regulations.

The consultation is seeking views on the policy underpinning regulations that cover the full range of Social Work England’s regulatory functions. It sets out:

  • the policy background to the reform of social work regulation;
  • approach and aims in setting up Social Work England;
  • approach to establishing the secondary legislative framework for Social Work England;
  • and the key propositions being consulted on.
