Resettling refugees – support after the first year: a guide for local authorities
This guide looks at how the needs of resettled clients may differ during their first year in the UK and during years 2-5, exploring the range of issues that local partners may need to think about/will be focusing on. It is intended for local authorities who have been participating in the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Programme (VPRS) and are now planning their programme of support for resettled refugees beginning their second year of resettlement, up to the end of their fifth year.
It covers areas including: finance; integration casework; local community involvement; employment advice; housing support; language support; education; health and legal support; with considerations and suggestions for each. Case studies throughout also illustrate how local areas are addressing some of the challenges of supporting resettled individuals and families.
