Reducing emergency admissions: progress report
A National Audit Office report examines the progress that the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, NHS Improvement and other stakeholders are making in reducing the impact of emergency admissions in acute hospitals.
The report looks across acute, primary, community and social care systems and builds upon related reports including Emergency admissions to hospital: managing the demand and Discharging older patients from hospital. It also sets out trends in emergency admissions; NHS England and partner responses to increasing emergency admissions; and the challenges in reducing emergency admissions.
The Department of Health and Social Care mandate includes an objective for NHS England to achieve a measurable reduction in emergency admission rates by 2020.
