Priorities for the health and social care system
Creating a closer workforce, embracing new technology and preventing illness are the priorities to improving the health and social care sector, according to new Health and Social Care Secretary, Matt Hancock.
Hancock, who was appointed following the departure of Jeremy Hunt, outlined his vision in a recent speech. He has pledged a technological healthcare revolution by providing a funding increase of £487 million to the NHS.
He has also stated a desire to bring the healthcare workforce closer together with further integration and placed a greater emphasis on prevention of illnesses by keeping people healthy.
The Local Government Association has welcomed the announcement of additional funds for the NHS, but reiterated that a sustainable approach to social care is still needed.
It is hoped the delayed Green Paper on social care, which is now planned for an autumn release, will address the concerns about funding.
