2 Social Work Research Centre (SWRC)
SWRC was established in 1986 with core funding from the ESRC, the Scottish Office and the University of Stirling. It is currently funded by the Social Work Services Inspectorate of the Scottish Executive and by the Department of Applied Social Science at the University of Stirling. SWRC carry out social science research relating to social work; and undertakes studies of direct relevance to the analysis or evaluation of policy and practice in the provision of social work services.

6 Research Utilisation Research Unit, University of St. Andrews
The RURU is a fully searchable library of references on research utilisation and the implementation of evidence-based policy and practice (EBPP). It draws on papers from four key sectors: health care, education, criminal justice and social care. Developed by the RURU team, the database holds references to a wide range of materials including journal articles, books, reports, conference proceedings and seminar papers. It aims to provide a broad and accessible evidence base for the research utilisation field in order to support research synthesis and the development of new knowledge in this area.

7 Policy Studies Institute

It provides data and analysis in support of policy-making, promotes the discussion and exchange of relevant information and research findings in social care, social policy and health.

8 Outcomes Network
The network aims to foster the exchange of information, mutual support and learning for those wishing to find practical ways of implementing 'outcomes approaches' within the field of social care. Initially the network sought to draw and build on the findings of a 5-year programme of research and development work undertaken by the Social Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of York, and funded by the Department of Health, relating to social care outcomes for older people, younger adults with physical and sensory impairments and carers. The concepts and principles developed from that programme continue to provide a solid basis for the further development of an outcomes approach to service provision. Now, under the umbrella of the Better Commissioning Learning and Information Network our intention is that it will continue to fulfil that role.

9 NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, University of York
The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) was established in January 1994, and aims to provide research-based information about the effects of interventions used in health and social care. It helps to promote the use of research-based knowledge, by offering: rigorous and systematic reviews of research on selected topics and scoping reviews which map the research literature. It provides three databases: DARE, NHS EED and the HTA database and also provides an information and enquiry service. The UK MHRN is a network designed to provide a research infrastructure. The network supports vital large-scale research which will help to raise the standard of mental health and social care research throughout England. In addition, it acts as a central point of information and reference, connecting service users and carers to researchers and mental health professionals. 16 Mary Seacole Research Centre (MSRC) De Montfort University
Part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at De Montfort University. Works with others across the University on issues of race and ethnicity in health. Particular research concerns include care planning in a multi-ethnic NHS, employment opportunities and career development of black and minority ethnic staff, and specific ethnic health care needs. Collaborative working with practitioners in health and welfare service agencies and community groups is seen as a priority.
