18 May 2010National Space Centre, LeicesterThis learning event took the personalisation agenda, as a point of departure and seeked to explore the reality of its implementation as experienced by the Black and Minority Ethnic communities, and the social care professionals who work with them. The event aimed to provide a space for dialogue between these groups so that different perspectives and experiences could be discussed and new understanding and ideas generated.
'..Thank you!' (delegate after the event)
Work in small groups and plenary sessions were combined to allow for different perspectives and experiences to be shared and explored, and new ideas and approaches to be discussed. The programme of the event was finalised depending on the specific mixture of people wanting to take part. This was not a training but proper hands-on learning event and its success depended on the contribution and enthusiasm of all the participants. The main learning points were summarised and are available on this website.
The event was open to service users and carers from Black and Minority Ethnic Communities and to social care professionals working with such communities. As part of the application, each applicant was expected to provide a brief (no more than a few sentences) description of their background and interest in the topic. Some relevant texts were sent to all participants prior to the event.
