Personalisation and BME Communities
18 May 2010
National Space Centre, Leicester
This learning eventtook the personalisation agenda, as a point of departure and seeked to explore the reality of its implementation as experienced by the Black and Minority Ethnic communities, and the social care professionals who work with them. The event aimed to provide a space for dialogue between these groups so that different perspectives and experiences could be discussed and new understanding and ideas generated.
Following the general election, we looked at what the future holds for integrated working between social care and health. We movedfrom the overall context, and the political/ economic landscape, through the research evidence, to what is happening in practice; and provided the opportunity for debate and discussion about how to get the most out of integrated working for the benefit of people needing support during the challenges and opportunities ahead.
'... brief speakers to be undiplomatic when they can be – can be refreshing!' (delegate after the event)
research in practice for adults held a highly successful conference for Occupational Therapists in 2007. Attendees asked us to make this a regular event, so the follow up conference took place on 9 March in Birmingham.
'... Very useful; will use some of the contacts made today for use of OT in our project and induction programme for new OT who is starting next month..' (delegate after the event)
