developing practice in safeguarding adultsThis change project has developed out of interest expressed within the research in practice for adults network around the need to enhance practice in the area of safeguarding adults and adult protection. Why safeguarding adults? The focus on safeguarding, or adult protection as it was at the time, was chosen from the membership of our Partner agencies as their top priority in 2007. At the time the national guidance document, No Secrets, had not been subject to any review, ADASS had stated the need for a clear position statement on safeguarding adults, and a number of large scale research projects were due to report, all of which added further impetus to the issue. How does it fit with the No Secrets review?Shortly after the project started a review of No Secrets was announced. The formal consultation process commenced in 2008, the responses were published in July 2009 and the Government have yet to publish their response to the consultation. Throughout this Change Project people have asked how it relates to the review and expressed concerns that anything produced from the project will date as soon as it is published. We hope that what we have captured in the Safety Matters resources are principles of good practice and thoughts for reflection which will outlive any future changes.
