'I suppose it is true to say that my background is Special Education, having spent most of the past 8 years researching and lecturing in the area of provision for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities. Following a first degree at Cardiff University, I decided to remain there studying for another 3 years before spending a fabulous 4 years working at St Patrick’s College, Dublin. More recently I have spent just over a year on a large scale household survey at the Office for National Statistics in Newport, Wales. I am delighted to have joined research in practice for adults and look forward to the challenges that the post will bring.'

'My long-standing passion is for research that helps patients and service users become more involved in decisions about their own health and social care.  After completing a Masters in Social Policy at Birmingham University in 2002, I spent four years in Health Services Research. I was involved in evaluations of some of the first Patient Choice pilots at Picker Institute Europe from 2002 to 2004, while more recently, at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, I helped develop new evidence-based referral guidelines for chronic knee pain sufferers.  I am very happy to have made the transition into the field of evidence-informed practice in adult social care at research in practice for adults as this feels like a logical step, presenting exciting new challenges for me.'

Alison Petch

Alison  Petch
Director

Alison joined research in practice for adults in October 2005. She:
• will take forward the next stage in the growth of research in practice for adults
• will liaise with Celia Atherton (director of research in practice) to ensure that both organisations work together in the most effective way

‘After training in planning and in social work, most of my career has been involved with research and policy, latterly in health and social care. From 1985 to 1993 I worked at the Social Work Research Centre (Stirling University), established to evaluate social work effectiveness. In 1993 I moved to Glasgow University as Director of the Nuffield Centre for Community Care Studies. The centre has focused on the evaluation, promotion and dissemination of community care policy and practice. My interests have always hovered on the boundary of research and practice and I am therefore delighted to be involved with developing research in practice for adults .’

Barbara Pintaske

• on-site event management at a range of learning events

'With a background in Marketing and advertising I have worked in a range of advertising agencies in Germany and the public sector since moving to the UK in 1998. All jobs incorporated coordination of a wide range of events (e.g. press conferences, HE Special Interest Groups and the SW CI summit at Dartington in 2006) and I am pleased about the opportunity to utilize experience gained to support the delivery of events for research in practice for adults.'
